Chocolate Mousse
Very Simple
This is my daughter Alexandra's Chocolate Mousse recipe and the photograph opposite was taken in her kitchen after being made by myself with the help of my three older grandchildren. A great time was had by the four of us in the making of the dessert and then the best part of all was in the eating of the dessert. You have heard the expression, I am sure, of the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Well it certainly is true of this dessert or pudding if you like! You will notice that it only has three ingredients (all pantry staples), four if you take into account my hint below regarding your favourite liqueur. Ingredients 115 gm dark chocolate 4 eggs separated 300 mls cream whipped
Method Melt chocolate using double saucepan, stirring until melted. You could use the microwave, being very careful to melt it very slowly. Remove from heat and cool a little, then add egg yolks one at a time, beat until smooth and thick. Fold in whipped cream, then add the stiffly beaten egg whites. Spoon into individual dessert bowls and refrigerate till firm. Serve topped with whipped cream, a strawberry and / or grated chocolate. You could also add some dessert biscuits, tucked nicely into the chocolate. You can buy numerous types of dessert biscuits from your local supermarket or specialty store. I think, though, that if you have gone to the effort of making such a lovely dessert, a home made dessert biscuit such as almond bread would just complete the whole dessert. HINT: For a more adult taste you could add 1 tablespoon of your favourite liqueur at the same time as you add the cream and egg whites. This dessert is a very elegant dessert and always goes down well at dinner parties or for your family and friends. Scrumptious!
